Wheeled Devices Not Associated with Disabilities or Mobility Support
In accordance with Texas State Law, operators of bicycles, scooters, and mopeds shall be subject to all laws and duties applicable to the driver of a motor vehicle while on any TCC campus or facility. In addition, skateboards, in-line skates, roller skates, hoverboards, and similar apparatuses, herein referred to as “Wheeled Devices”, shall comply with all stop signs, yield signs, and other official traffic control devices and not exceed posted speed limits when traveling on campus.
Wheeled device operators must use caution to prevent injury to themselves and to others. Operators of wheeled devices are personally liable for damages caused and associated with their use.
Individuals may be found to have violated the Student Handbook by conducting themselves in a manner that endangers the health or safety of other persons on campus or at an approved event or function sponsored by the college.
Wheeled devices must be used as a form of transportation only. With the exception of mobility devices for the disabled, the use of wheeled devices is prohibited within any building on TCC property or areas under the control of TCC including, but are not limited to the following:
- Sidewalk curbs
- Staircases and steps
- Handrails
- Benches, tables, chairs, stools or any other architectural features including artwork
- Grass areas and landscaping
It is prohibited for wheeled device operators to engage in stunts or “trick riding” on any TCC campus. Stunts or “trick riding” is known as any type of movement where the wheels of the wheeled device are deliberately removed from contact with any ground, sidewalk or street surfaces in a repetitive technique. Individuals are encouraged to always abide by safety regulations including the use of protective safety gear such as helmets, knee and elbow pads that meet current safety standards.
Parking of bicycles and scooters is restricted to designated areas, bicycle racks or charging stations and are subject to the same parking regulations as bicycles. Bicycles and scooters are not permitted in buildings or inside any exterior access door.
Wheeled devices must be operated in accordance with and conform to all local, state and federal regulations. It is prohibited to operate a wheeled device on campus in a manner that jeopardizes pedestrian safety. Operators may be subject to a fine or penalty under local, state or federal laws. Penalties can include warnings, fines and in some cases, arrest.
TCC is not responsible for the loss, theft or damage to any wheeled device. To report a loss, theft or damage to a wheeled device, please contact the TCC Police Department.
