Admissions Test

TCC does not have an admissions test, however you may need to take a placement test. Most new-to-college students are required to take a placement test to determine college readiness in reading, writing and mathematics before registering for restricted courses.

The Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) is the state-approved placement test. To satisfy TSI and course prerequisite requirements, you must meet or exceed the minimum passing standards. Information on TSIA is available in any campus Testing Centers or the TCC catalog.

Students are required to complete the following tasks before they attempt the TSI Assessment test:

• Watch PAA video (Pre-Assessment Activity)
• Watch on campus or online through WebAdvisor (under “Prepare to Register” section)
• Watch a 19 minute mandatory video covering the TSI and what to expect when testing

Each campus provides a testing center and offers a variety of tests, which may include:

• TSI Assessment
• ALEKS PPL (Advanced Math Placement Assessment)
• Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)
  • Advanced Placement (AP)
  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
  • Credit-by-Examination (CBE)
• eLearning testing
• General Education Development (GED)
• HESI A2 Admission Assessment
