HPRS 1471 - Central Sterile Processing III Semester Hours: 4 | Lecture Hours: 3 | Laboratory Hours: 2 An exploration of the subsections of the Central Sterile Processing Certification program: A) Instrument and Instrument Identification-identifying surgical instruments by name and purpose, examination of the process by which surgical instruments are manufactured and prepared for the sterilization process. B) Endoscopic Instruments-proper care, handling and processing of endoscopic instruments. C) Decontamination-describe how reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies are cleaned and decontaminated by means of manual or mechanical cleaning processes and chemical disinfection and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Standard Precautions. D) Preparation and Handling-relates to basic principles of various packaging materials and closure methods used for sterilization preparation as they relate to the Association of Advancement of Medical Instrument (AAMI) standards. E) Sterilization- relates sterilization procedures and theory including high and low temperature sterilization, sterilization equipment, types of sterilizers, various cycles, quality assurance concepts, documentation, standards, policies and procedures.
