Program Student Learning Outcomes

1. Graduates will be able to identify common types of plant diseases or disorders by appearance and be able to classify them as biotic or abiotic problems.
2. Graduates will be able to read and interpret fertilizer labels to determine proper usage for healthy plant growth and environmental sustainability.
3. Graduates will be prepared to take and successfully pass the State of Texas exam for a private pesticide applicator license.
4. Graduates will be proficient at reading and understanding a basic nutrient soil analysis to determine how to improve the quality of plant growth by balancing the soil nutrient content of the soil.
5. Graduates will be able to identify the common herbaceous plants grown and marketed in the retail horticulture industry.
6. Graduates will have the ability to identify common insect pests by completing an insect collection from the environment organized by taxonomic orders.
