Program Student Learning Outcomes

|
- Graduates will demonstrate a respect for the cultural values of the Deaf Community.
- Graduates will independently develop and execute a dynamically equivalent message for members of the Deaf community in American Sign Language.
- Graduates will analyze issues of language, power, and control & their impact on the role of the interpreter and goals for interpreting.
- Graduates will complete a minimum of 432 total interpreting internship hours, consisting of observation and active interpreting, monitored by a certified mentor interpreter. A minimum of 100 hours must be completed as active interpreting.
- Graduates will complete a minimum of 80 Service-Learning hours that will benefit members of the Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf/Disabled, and Hard of Hearing.
- Graduates will collaborate with intern and professional peers to create a dynamically equivalent message in ASL for theatrical, conference, and other community events.
- Graduates will develop a professional portfolio including a resume outlining education, experience, and skills for an entry-level practitioner position in the field of interpreting; a professional LinkedIn account with professional email address and headshot, and three letters of reference.
